Overview of Solar Rooftop Yojana

The Solar Rooftop Yojana is an ambitious initiative launched by the central government. Under this scheme, solar panels will be installed on the rooftops of 1 crore households with subsidies of up to 40%. Beneficiaries will receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month. Depending on the rooftop capacity and consumption, families can save between ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 annually. A minimum of 1 KW solar panel can be installed, allowing consumers to significantly reduce their electricity bills for 15 to 20 years.

Objectives

The government has allocated ₹75,000 crores for this initiative in the fiscal year 2024-25. It is also referred to as the PM Surya Ghar scheme, and applications can be submitted online through the official portal.

How to Apply for the Solar Rooftop Yojana

  2. Click the Apply For Rooftop Solar button.
  3. Select Register Here to open the registration form.
  4. Fill in your state, district, electricity company name, and consumer account number, then click Next.
  5. Log in using your registration ID and carefully fill out the form with the requested information before submitting it.
  6. Wait for DISCOM approval. Once received, proceed to install the solar plant.
  7. After entering the plant details, complete the application process for the net meter.
  8. A commissioning certificate will be generated. Enter basic bank account information on the portal, and submit.
  9. The subsidy will be transferred to your bank account after processing.
